Eudemonia (or more appropriately "eudaimonia") is a Greek word that describes a state of general fulfillment. Eudemonia acknowledges the reality of experiencing pain, suffering, and bad days without being diminished by them. In contrast to happiness, which can be stumbled upon, eudemonia is something one builds. It requires looking into one's soul, at times charging into darkness, and finding that which gives life meaning.
In January of 2020 I bought a set of cards describing words that have no English equivalent. One of them described eudemonia. I kept it on my desk for over a year before I decided to give up my job, my apartment, most (or at least half) of my possessions, and travel full-time in order to pursue it.
Road to Eudemonia is a blog about travel, healing, self discovery, and seeking eudemonia. It's a concentrated attempt to learn how to show up authentically in the world.
Thanks for coming along for the ride :)
